Where it all began

It all started with a need noticed by a Finnish gynaecologist while working with her clients. Many reported challenges and discomfort with the menstrual cup they used. The gynaecologist decided to make a change in this matter, as no one should tolerate discomfort.

At the beginning of the project, there was a clear vision – a completely new type of menstrual cup should be developed and brought to the market. Every detail of was to be thought out from the point of view of medicine and female anatomy with the highest of standards. The goal was to make the Nomai Menstrual Cup more comfortable to use, more reliable and of higher quality than any of the menstrual cups currently on the market.

The shape of the Nomai Menstrual Cup and the softness of the material were combined with a test team of nearly one hundred participants. The test user group included people with different menstrual cup use backgrounds. In the end, a version was found that received the best feedback from test users. Those who had used a menstrual cup before found that the Nomai Menstrual Cup was more comfortable than other options. The soft material of the cup, the antenna shaped from beads and the opening of the cup received particularly positive feedback.

Finnish menstrual cup designed by a gynaecologist

The Nomai Menstrual Cup is made ethically in Finland. The material of the menstrual cup is 100% medical silicone, which has been scientifically proven to be safe and has received FDA approval. It does not contain harmful chemicals, latex, phthalates, BPA and parabens. Medical silicone does not dry the vaginal mucous membranes.

The colours used in the cups have been tested according to international standards and found to be suitable for medical use.

The production process of the menstrual cups is extremely controlled and ISO certified. In addition, it has the Responsible Care certification in the field of chemistry. The certificates indicate that only premium quality products are manufactured in production.

Founded in 2018, Nomai is an intimate health brand whose mission is to ensure that you have the option to choose high-quality and reliable intimate health products that promote well-being. When a product is placed against the skin, it must be safe and reliable for its user, as well as pleasant to use.

Responsibility is Nomai's core value and it guides all the choices we make. We always strive to choose the smartest and most sustainable option for the user and the environment according to our resources.

For us, responsibility is also a way of acting respectfully, honestly, fairly, transparently and ethically towards our community members, customers, partners and society.

Where possible, Nomai products are manufactured in the brand's home country, in Finland, or in the EU area. For each product, we openly disclose where our products are made. The Nomai Menstrual Cup, Nomai Cup Wash cleansing gel, Nomai Smooth Lube water-based lubricant and Nomai Soft Oil intimate & body oil are manufactured in Finland and all cardboard outer packaging and paper brochures are also manufactured in Finland. The sterilisation container and menstrual cup storage pouches are currently manufactured in China.

Materials and raw materials are selected in such a way that, in terms of the environment and user features, they are the best possible, of the highest quality and safe. Read more about the material choices on our product-specific pages.

Environmentally friendly choice

Disposable sanitary towels and tampons produce over 100 kilograms of poorly degrading and plastic-containing waste during the life of a menstruating individual. The menstrual cup is a plastic-free, reusable menstrual protection, which can be used for several years. By choosing a menstrual cup, you are doing a great favour not only to yourself, but also to our planet.

No animal ingredients are used in the production of the menstrual cup, which means that they are also suitable for vegans.

When it is time to replace the cup for a new one, you can dispose of the old one either in mixed waste or, for example, by burning it in a fireplace — when it burns, the silicone does not release harmful substances, but burns at a high enough temperature to form white ash.
