Before each (including the first) use of the Nomai Menstrual Cup, boil the cup for about 10 minutes in plenty of water. This ensures that the menstrual cup is completely sterilised before use.

You'll be fine with one menstrual cup, but alternating between two menstrual cups might make your life a little easier: when one menstrual cup is in use, you can pre-sterilise the other, so you always have a sterilised moon cup at your disposal.

Whenever the menstrual cup is emptied of blood, it should also be washed. This ensures the safe and hygienic use of the menstrual cup.

After emptying the menstrual cup into the toilet or sink, rinse it first with cold water, which will prevent the menstrual cup from staining. You can then wash the menstrual cup with slightly warmer water and, if you wish, also use a mild, fragrance-free and oil-free cleanser such as Nomai Cup Wash cleansing gel (recommended pH 3.5 to 5). Silicone is a delicate material that can absorb odour, colour or substances that can damage the menstrual cup or irritate the mucous membranes.

When washing the menstrual cup, pay particular attention to making sure that the air holes of the menstrual cup are fully open and clean. If you do not have the opportunity to wash the menstrual cup, you can also wipe the menstrual cup with a cleaning cloth intended for cleaning the menstrual cup.

To ensure that your Nomai Menstrual Cup is hygienic and therefore safe to use, it should be sterilised by boiling every time after menstruation. The sterilisation of the menstrual cup ensures that no bacteria remain on the surface of the menstrual cup, which can cause infection the next time you use it.

The menstrual cup is sterilised by boiling the menstrual cup for about 10 minutes in plenty of water. No separate ingredients or utensils are needed to boil the menstrual cup—just water and a reasonably sized, intact dish such as a saucepan. Sterilisation is also convenient with the Nomai sterilising container, which is used in the microwave oven.

After the menstrual cup has been boiled, let it air dry. Once the menstrual cup has dried, store it in a breathable cotton storage bag.
