Before you use the menstrual cup for the first time, and always at the beginning of your period, boil the menstrual cup for about 10 minutes in boiling water. Remember to also wash your hands thoroughly with soap every time before you start handling the menstrual cup.

To make it as easy as possible to insert the menstrual cup into the vagina, fold it into a tight package. The most common folding techniques are the so-called heart fold, punch-down fold and triangle fold. You will surely find the most natural folding technique for yourself.

Be bold and try different methods, and do not be discouraged if you do not immediately succeed.

First, check that the air holes in the top of the menstrual cup are open. Try to be as relaxed as possible. Most commonly, the menstrual cup is placed while sitting on the toilet, in a squatting position, or with one foot raised on the toilet seat lid. Especially at the beginning, you may find it easier to insert the menstrual cup using, for example, water or water-based lubricant.

Hold the menstrual cup tightly folded and guide its entire length rim first into the vagina. When the menstrual cup has opened properly, its base feels round. If the menstrual cup has not opened properly, grab the base of the cup and rotate it, for example, 180 degrees. You can also pull the menstrual cup slightly down from the antenna, rotate it, and then push the menstrual cup back into place.

The antenna of the Nomai Menstrual Cup should not remain outside the vagina. If the antenna feels uncomfortable, you can shorten it or remove it entirely by cutting it with scissors. However, be careful not to damage the base of the menstrual cup.

When the Nomai Menstrual Cup has been inserted correctly, you should not feel it at all.

The emptying interval of the menstrual cup depends on the amount of menstrual bleeding you have. On heavy bleeding days, you may need to empty the menstrual cup 2-4 times, but at other times, it may be enough to empty it in the morning and again in the evening. However, empty the menstrual cup at least every 12 hours.

When removing the menstrual cup, try and relax your body and mind. You can either sit on the toilet, lift your leg on top of the toilet seat lid, or get yourself into a squat position. When you are ready, insert your finger into the vagina and squeeze the bottom of the menstrual cup. You can also slide your finger along the side of the menstrual cup, causing it to give way and the negative pressure from inside the menstrual cup will escape.

After that, push the menstrual cup with your pelvic floor muscles toward the opening of the vagina in the same way as when going to the toilet. At the same time, guide the menstrual cup with your fingers out of the vagina. The purpose of the menstrual cup's antenna is to lead you to the menstrual cup and you can use it for some support when removing the menstrual cup. You shouldn’t pull on the menstrual cup’s antenna, as this intensifies the negative pressure of the cup and holds the cup more tightly in place.

When removing the cup, try not to panic, you will definitely be able to remove it. This too may require a few practice sessions before you find the best technique for yourself, and soon inserting and removing the menstrual cup will already feel very easy.

Empty the cup into either the toilet bowl or the sink and rinse it. You should start rinsing with cold water, as this will prevent the cup from staining. You can also use a mild, fragrance-free, oil-free cleanser such as Nomai Cup Wash cleansing gel for rinsing. If the toilet does not have a sink, you can also wipe the menstrual cup with a cleaning cloth intended for menstrual cups.

When cleaning, check that the air holes at the top of the cup are fully open and clean.

When your period is over, sterilise the menstrual cup by boiling it for about 10 minutes in plenty of water or in a Nomai sterilising container and, if you wish, wash it with Nomai Cup Wash cleansing gel. After that, let the menstrual cup air dry and finally slip the Nomai Menstrual Cup into the breathable cotton storage pouch intended for it. The pouch protects your menstrual cup, and you can conveniently carry it with you when your next period begins to approach.
